It works with my ATT DSL service in SF Bay Area. Because I have my own router, I set it to bridge mode to avoid the double NAT problem described by some reviewers here. The product arrived from Amazon.com in a stained white paper box. I thought it was an used or opened item but all parts inside appear new. I would not give it 5 stars because it runs hot and the case does not provide good ventilation. I guess it is a consumer-grade device designed for a price point. For about 1/2 the price of the modem kit sold by ATT, this is a good deal. However, unlike the ATT kit, it does not include any DSL phone line filter. Therefore, a buyer with new installation has to get the filters separately.

I bought this DSL modem to replace the one AT&T supplied because the power button was starting to act up. It was easy to to set up with the software. It seems my connection is faster than with the sppeadstream 4100 too. When installing this DSL modem make sure you have your DSL network password handy. I had a little trouble with that part. But got it figured out. There was no tweaking of the settings to get it to work with AT&T. It was up and running in a matter of minutes. I would recommend this modem to anyone. The price is great too.

VPN server built in, October 9, 2003

So for your small network you need a Router, 4port hub and occationally want to connect to it from on the road.

this is the box you want, It will do everything other routers do
plus it has a VPN SERVER that works with windows right out of
the box. It natively support PPTP, so you do not need additional software. Beware with other VPN server like linksys you WILL need a client software it you are using windows.

Negative: telnet administration, with more learning curve than
the web based interfaces you see with Linksys, etc.

Great Ethernet router for small/medium businesses & branch offices, March 27, 2009

I have used the Netopia R910 Ethernet router for the better part of 10 years. This is a real business class router/firewall – I’ve found it perfect for the businesses I support.

R910s are reliable. Over the last ten years I’ve deployed perhaps 150 of these devices. I have had exactly two fail during that time. The units stay up as well – I can’t remember the last time a R910 locked up or otherwise stopped working.

The R910 supports VPNs, both site to site and remote access by client using all of the popular protocols – PPTP, ATMP, etc. The unit is also quite secure – built in network address translation, port address translation, stateful inspection, etc.

One configures the unit via Telnet, not a web browser. Some see this as a weakness; I see it as a strength.

I have yet to find a router/firewall as good as the R910 in its price range.
